Blog #8

Hey everyone,

Diigo has been very interesting to work with these through the last GICAs that we did. It was a program that I never knew about or even heard of. Diigo for me is great cause allows for a group to crowd source resources and articles. This would allow teachers to use crowd sourcing in their career more with both students and other teachers. I can see apply what we use Diigo for in our GICAs in a regular classroom with whatever topic we are working on, so they can see how to use the program and how they can work together to retrieve and annotate possible sources for a project or paper. The ability to comment on others annotations is also a really good way students to work together and talk about sources.

Bloom's Taxonomy in lesson creation can be boosted through technology, to prove this, I will go over how PowerPoint can help at each level of the Taxonomy chart.

  • Create: PowerPoint assignment are a great way to put the students in the shoes of the teachers and give them the chance to see how they would teach something to their peers. I have had countless assignments where I use PowerPoint to get it done.
  • Evaluate: Using the PowerPoint, a teacher can allow students evaluate what the info is telling them by utilizing certain layouts to spark a discussion in their head. for example having two separate body boxes can allow students to see two sides of a argument or topic.
  • Analyze: PowerPoint not only allows the presentation of the info but allow you to analyze of that info for the students to see what the bigger picture is. Using more innovate PowerPoint presentations you can allow the PowerPoint to visually show your students the analyzing.
  • Apply: PowerPoints area great way to show your students how to make a desgin or lesson of their own. So they can apply what they learned about PowerPoint and try it out themselves
  • Understand: Powerpoints allow students to understand concpets by the way it is laid out and create by their teacher or themselves.
  • Remember: This is the most fundamental part of Bloom's taxonomy and it fits PowerPoints the best. For the most part in many of your classes, PowerPoint will be the thing that you present all the info in in which you hope that your students will remember again when needed.

Being up to date with technology innovations is very tough for teachers to do. This can be due to different experiences with technology in the classroom, if a teacher is not use to working with new tech in their classroom, why would they always be on top of whats coming out? Even with this, all teachers now that education and students are evolving to be more accustomed to tech therefore teachers need to know what is going on so they can also adapt to the environment. The resource I found was a website called EdSurge, this website is dedicated to educational technology in all capacities and has articles about the tech and how to use it in classrooms. This can allow teachers to get an overview of something before they try it out themselves. \

Blog 5: Diigo, Blogs, and Web 2.0 Tools

Hey everybody, We are starting to work more with Diigo in class with GICAs and in class activities. In the beginning of the semester I had no idea what it was or what even "social bookmarking" meant. Know that we have had sometime to use the program, its a cool concept that I did not know was out there that people and educators can use. I like the idea of crowd sourcing through annotated websites or articles cause allows more groundwork to be cover when researching a topic in a group because more people are finding relevant resources for you to explore. The interface and how the program works can be fixed in my opinion. The program feels a bit clunky at times when I am trying to annotate it and that makes it feel like I cannot annotate it the way I want to. Overall I think social bookmarking is something I want to explored more in my career. Blogging is something I thought I would not like to do because to be honest, I never saw myself having a blog ever in my life. Thoug...

Blog 10: Data Collection, Blogs, and New Skills

Hey everybody, I think I can use data collection and reporting as a history teacher as a way to check my students' knowledge about topics so I can better know what I should teach and what I can skip over. I could let them do a survey at the beginning of the year or semester, asking how well they know certain historical topics and ask them what they want to learn. This would help me better refine my lesson plan and make it a better fit for my class so I am not going over things they either already know or something they are not interested in. With data reporting, I think I would use it as a way to better visualize certain things for them to understand. I love visualizations, as seen in my two ILPS, therefore I would use excel to make some simple graphs and charts to show them a new way to look at the numbers/data. My favorite thing when I was looking at other peoples blogs was looking at there assignments that we had to post about. Seeing every bodies website, PowerPoint and ILP...
