Blog 10: Data Collection, Blogs, and New Skills

Hey everybody, I think I can use data collection and reporting as a history teacher as a way to check my students' knowledge about topics so I can better know what I should teach and what I can skip over. I could let them do a survey at the beginning of the year or semester, asking how well they know certain historical topics and ask them what they want to learn. This would help me better refine my lesson plan and make it a better fit for my class so I am not going over things they either already know or something they are not interested in. With data reporting, I think I would use it as a way to better visualize certain things for them to understand. I love visualizations, as seen in my two ILPS, therefore I would use excel to make some simple graphs and charts to show them a new way to look at the numbers/data. Blog #9: Flipped Classrooms, OERs, and PowerPoint assignments

Hey Everybody, The concept of a Flipped Classroom is very intriguing to me, in the concept, the time in the classroom is not devoted to a lecture where the teacher talks to the students but a time for the students to work on assignments and projects together  with the supervision of the teacher. That then means that the student will learn the materiel or the lesson before the class through online lectures and should be prepared. I think this kind of classroom structure could work with many subjects, though, a total switch to this system might not be the best move. A gradual transition would be needed to able the students the ability to get accustomed to because it is not the traditional way to teach. OERs are for me resources(that include lesson plans, texts, assignments, and other things) that teachers can use, that are in the public domain and do not need to be bought. They are free to use for anyone and their were created by a person or a group of people for that very reason...

Hey everyone, Diigo has been very interesting to work with these through the last GICAs that we did. It was a program that I never knew about or even heard of. Diigo for me is great cause allows for a group to crowd source resources and articles. This would allow teachers to use crowd sourcing in their career more with both students and other teachers. I can see apply what we use Diigo for in our GICAs in a regular classroom with whatever topic we are working on, so they can see how to use the program and how they can work together to retrieve and annotate possible sources for a project or paper. The ability to comment on others annotations is also a really good way students to work together and talk about sources. Bloom's Taxonomy in lesson creation can be boosted through technology, to prove this, I will go over how PowerPoint can help at each level of the Taxonomy chart. ILP #2- Designing with Tableau

Tableau is a great product becasue it offers a lot of ways to create visuals than other programs like excel can offer. Blog #7: Twitter, Web Design, and adaptive tech

Hey everybody, Twitter is something else. I never had one before this class because I did not what I would do with it because I was just use to Instagram. But when I had to make one for this course, I made sure to make one for my general academic self and not just for this course. After following and using twitter for a little bit I realized that is a great way to communicate fast and to a wide audience.  For example, as I mentioned in previous blog post, the use of twitter by historians (by using #twitterstorians) was so immense that it straight up shocked me. It was probably because I never had an image of a historian or professor using twitter as a social media platform bur it seems to be their favorite. To be honest though, I am not an active twitter user when it comes to making original posts, i mostly just like or retweet things that I like or find interesting. Blog #6: Teachers Websites and The Tech Sandbox

Hey everybody, This blog is talking the importance of having a personal websites as a teacher or for your own class and about my experiences at the Tech Sandbox. Teachers websites are not a thing I have encounter in my middle school or high school. I researched my schools and saw that they just followed the same template given to them by the Palm Beach School County. This meant that there was no teacher website that I could look at that came from one of my past schools. To be fair to them, most of that was done on Edline, which was our version of Canvas or Blackboard. Therefore I choose to pick ones that I found online. Blog 5: Diigo, Blogs, and Web 2.0 Tools

Hey everybody, We are starting to work more with Diigo in class with GICAs and in class activities. In the beginning of the semester I had no idea what it was or what even "social bookmarking" meant. Know that we have had sometime to use the program, its a cool concept that I did not know was out there that people and educators can use. I like the idea of crowd sourcing through annotated websites or articles cause allows more groundwork to be cover when researching a topic in a group because more people are finding relevant resources for you to explore. The interface and how the program works can be fixed in my opinion. The program feels a bit clunky at times when I am trying to annotate it and that makes it feel like I cannot annotate it the way I want to. Overall I think social bookmarking is something I want to explored more in my career.
